The Peggy Birnberg Fund

Thank you for your interest in the Peggy Birnberg Fund

The fund was set up in Peggy’s honour to provide our members living in poverty with the opportunity to access resources that otherwise would be unavailable to them.

The Peggy Birnberg Fund will support:

Individuals: Members can apply for this funding for emergencies such as travelling to the funeral of a family member, replacing eye glasses, accessing emergency dental work, or purchasing medications.

Group funding: To pay for an experience that benefits the wellbeing of a group (e.g. a group personal trainer, specialized cooking class, group outing), one that cannot be purchased from other funding.

Peggy Birnberg, was Houselink’s Executive Director from 1991 to 2009, and died on February 8th, 2013.

Under Peggy’s leadership Houselink revamped its mission, consolidated its operations and tripled its funding base. It embraced the Recovery Movement, expanded employment opportunities for members, established a food program, developed new properties, and introduced Families Moving Forward, education bursaries and a rainy day fund for members. The Rainy day fund has been renamed in Peggy’s honour.
